Managed to pass login a couple of times to create characters but after the FMV intro I get a black screen and when I quit I can't log in again. Like now.

Yeah - I finally got logged in only to get the black screen after character create.
Most frustrating thing is that we all knew this would happen cos it happens on every new online game release and yet still games companies can't handle the initial load.

Exactly what Kiv said. I have yet to get to a point where I can message anyone or create the guild, but I'm currently creating my third character.

After 80 minutes of retries, during which I got to character create/select 4 times, on the 5th try I am now finally in the starting area!

Got thorwn out of the game 20 mins ago with an error saying it had lost connection. Every attempt to reconnect has failed so far.
This pre-purchase is starting to look like a waste of £15. So far I got to play 2 hours out of a potential 4 :x

Yeah I had a brief period of play, during which I still couldn't do very much of what I was hoping to do (guild admin).

Maybe they will reimburse those of us who didn't get value out of our pre-purchases by giving us free gems? :P

I've mostly been ok this morning. Save for a blip at 6 and a 20 minute (and counting) login failure now. Got a couple of level 5 characters and another two just out of their tutorials. :D

Time to just carry on hammering the login button.

Forums are closed, a message up saying check twitter or contact support. Probably to stop the complaint storm they'd get if they were open as planned (since 08:00 this morning).
Twitter is mostly saying contact support.

Seems that if you can get in...
"We are aware of issues with server connectivity. We will keep you up to date with our progress."

HoM is broken
"We are also aware of the issues with getting the rewards from HoM. Thanks for your messages!"

PvP is broken
"The team is also working on sPvP servers, we will have an update for you soon!"

WvW is broken
"WvW currently has some scoring issues, we are investigating and will update when we have more information"

And the list goes on...
"We are also aware of the black screen some of you get after character creation and about the delays in party chat and whisper."

Of all the online games I have played, including several others taking part in beta and release days, I haven't experianced anything this bad. Even crappy gameforge games do better. ANet's reputation is going to take a big hit if they don't sort it out soon. I was expecting a bit of lag and a few login retries, and a few bugs still around, but not hours of unplayable game :(

Time for lunch I guess.

It's possible that ANet themselves underestimated the interest in their game, but it's also worth remembering that they're reliant on NCSoft's network of servers. NCSoft have a far worse history of support than ANet do and, to them, ramping up server availability massively for the spike of player activity at release is probably not considered cost-effective.

But then, as a game developer my instinct is always to blame the publisher for anything that goes wrong.

I'm kinda glad I'll miss all this pre-launch/launch madness really. Sick of it after being frustrated by it in most other games I've had.

I'll join you at the end of next week, when my BOXED copy arrives. Haven't had a boxed copy for years, but had to go for it since the site where you pre-order the digital one fell over every time I tried to order it. :(

Wish I had done the same Sixxor.
I think it is the fact that we had to pay the extra £15 for the extra 2 days that makes this such a bitch. If it was just the free extra day for pre-order then folks would be easier to accept. I want my £7.50 worth :thwak:

And its raining :(

The bastards have screwed me again :thwak:
Forced out of game for new build. On restart of client it downloads update as normal, but now I cannot login as every attempt says unable to contact login server.

After 75 mins of clicking login finally get in.
And they have knackered guilds again. Apprently we can all see the guild, but we can't talk to each other as "You are not in a guild."

You folks that didn't pay the extra for early start would probably be best off waiting for the weekend to avoid all this shit. Let us work out all the bugs for ya then come and have the fun ;)
(If only they had let me in to the alpha earlier, would all have been perfect of course)

Aaaaaand kicked out again.
Managed to play for about ½hour only and then get kicked out of game, back to the endless cycle of "unable to gain access to the log-in server at this time".
Please god let them get their infrastructure sorted soon
